Souls

Souls fund purchases and hero progression, so earning them is only half the decision. You also need a safe collection route and a chance to turn the income into something that helps the next fight.

Last-hitting

Trooper last hits are no longer the gate to generating souls in Deadlock. The practical contest has moved toward being nearby, collecting the ground reward and winning the flying orb. Advice built entirely around the old final-hit requirement misses that change.

Use the wave to choose your position

Finish troopers when doing so improves the wave state, prepares a rotation or opens an orb you can secure. Do not accept a losing trade merely to land the final bullet. The better position may let you collect rewards while the opponent cannot approach.

Practise the full collection sequence

In a low-pressure lane, watch a trooper die, identify the flying orb, then move into pickup range of the ground reward. Repeat while using cover. This connects aim with movement and prevents the common mistake of winning a shot but leaving the remaining income behind.

Soul orbs and denies

The flying soul orb is a short contest over a reward; the orb left on the ground is a different pickup. Learning to distinguish them keeps you from aiming at something your team cannot steal while the actual deny window disappears.

Prepare the shot before the orb rises

Keep ammunition available when a trooper is about to die and move your aim toward the expected orb path. Choose cover that still gives sight of the reward. Reloading through every death hands the opponent opportunities even when your damage on the wave was good.

Protect your income without overreaching

Secure a friendly flying orb when the enemy can contest it, and look for their flying orb when your own collection is safe. A deny attempt that costs a large health trade can force you away from several later rewards. Ground pickups still require approach afterward.

Shop tiers, investments and components

An item’s tier tells you its place in the price structure, not whether it solves your next problem. Shop investment bonuses also depend on spending in a category. Compare the complete purchase with the fight you need to take, rather than buying the highest tier you can afford.

Choose an immediate job

Decide whether the next item supplies damage, a way to reach the target, recovery or a response to control. A smaller active can unlock a fight that a larger stat purchase still loses. Inspect component paths so the next upgrade fits the inventory you already have.

Use category bonuses without chasing them blindly

Weapon, vitality and spirit investment reward spending differently, and their benefits are not a simple identical bonus per item. A category threshold can influence a close choice, but should not override an urgent answer to the enemy’s actual threat.
