When to buy & tricks

Burst Fire is a Tier 3 weapon upgrade from Rapid Rounds that hands you a flat fire-rate boost plus a juicy on-hit window: land one bullet on an enemy hero and you briefly gain extra fire rate and move speed. It's a momentum item — the first shot in a trade ramps your DPS up and lets you close on the target or peel off after you win, so it shines on heroes who put a steady stream of bullets on heroes rather than fire one big shot.

When to buy

Slot it once Rapid Rounds isn't pulling its weight anymore and you're winning gunfights, usually as a mid-game weapon pickup. The proc only pays off if you reliably land bullets on heroes, so it's a core buy on sustained-fire carries with big magazines and decent accuracy — Bebop, Viscous, McGinnis and similar — where the move speed turns a won duel into a kill or a clean escape. Skip it if your damage comes from a single charged or burst shot; you'll rarely keep the buff up and the raw fire rate does little for you.

The move speed is half the value — use the buff to chase a low target down or to disengage right after you've won the trade.
It rewards opening the fight: get the first bullet on an enemy hero and you'll out-DPS them through the rest of the duel.
Tag a hero through minions or off a poke to spin the buff up before you fully commit.
Fire-rate scaling is mostly wasted on heroes that fire fixed-size bursts or charge shots — bring it on continuous-fire guns instead.

Is Burst Fire worth it?

On a sustained-fire DPS hero who lands their bullets, yes — the flat fire rate plus the on-hit fire rate and move speed make it one of the better mid-game weapon items. On burst or charge-shot heroes it underperforms; buy a different weapon line.

Does the proc need a hero hit?

Yes — the bonus only triggers when one of your bullets hits an enemy hero, not creeps or objectives, so it does nothing while you're just farming the lane.
