Split Shot
Make your weapon fire multishot.
Hitting more than one Hero per attack will grant a stacking weapon damage bonus.
Targets can only be hit once per multishot.
Active — bind to a key and trigger it (Z/X/C/V).
Split Shot is an active weapon item: hit the button and your gun fires multishot — extra projectiles in a spread — so one trigger pull can tag several heroes at once. Land two or more heroes in the same shot and you start stacking a weapon damage bonus, which is why it shines in grouped teamfights and for mowing through clustered bodies rather than dueling a single target.
When to buy
It's a Tier 2 buy for gun-heavy heroes who spend fights spraying into clustered enemies — think Vyper and other sustained-fire carries who want their bullets to hit everything in front of them. The multishot turns wave clear, neutral camps and choke fights into free value, and the stacking damage rewards you for staying on multiple targets. Skip it if your hero kills off abilities, fights mostly one-on-one, or relies on precise single-target headshots, since the extra projectiles spread your damage instead of focusing it.
How to use it
Pop the active before a teamfight or a push, not after — you want multishot already live the moment bodies group up at a lane choke, on an objective, or around a Walker. Line your crosshair so the spread catches two or more heroes at once; that's what feeds the stacking bonus, and each target only counts once per shot, so there's no point overlapping projectiles on a lone enemy. Against a single hero you still get your gun's normal damage, just without the stack, so treat it as a fight-wide tool rather than a duel button. It pairs naturally with fire-rate and ammo items: the more shots you land into a crowd, the faster the bonus climbs.
Is Split Shot worth it?
On gun carries who fight into grouped enemies, yes — it's one of the highest-impact weapon items for teamfights and pushing, and the stacking bonus snowballs hard when bodies cluster. It's a weak pick on single-target assassins or ability-based heroes who rarely shoot into a crowd.
Does Split Shot help against a single target?
Not much. The extra projectiles only hit each enemy once and the damage stack needs two or more heroes tagged in the same shot, so against a lone target you're basically firing your normal gun. Its value is grouped fights, wave clear and chokes.
