When to buy & tricks

Sharpshooter is the upgraded Long Range: a Tier 3 weapon passive that adds a big chunk of weapon damage whenever you're shooting from beyond a minimum distance, plus the bullet velocity to actually land it. It's a mid-game power spike for committed range gunners who win by holding spacing, and like its cheaper version it does nothing the moment an enemy is in your face.

When to buy

This is a core mid-game pickup on heroes whose whole plan is fighting from distance: Vindicta, Grey Talon, Mirage, Paradox, Seven. You usually start the slot as Long Range in lane and complete it once you have the souls, turning an early poke item into a real damage spike. The bonus only switches on past the minimum distance, so it rewards exactly the spacing those heroes already hold, and the extra bullet velocity makes the long shots land. Skip it on brawlers and dive heroes — Abrams, Lash, close-range Haze — where you're inside the dead zone constantly and Close Quarters does the opposite job.

It's the upgrade path for Long Range — buy that early in lane and complete Sharpshooter mid-game instead of holding the slot empty.
Fight from your max effective range so the bonus stays live; hug the target and you lose the damage, over-extend the distance and accuracy drops.
The velocity and range bump mean your gun stays hot further out — pair it with slows and mobility to keep the gap open and milk the uptime.
Never run it alongside Close Quarters — at any given range one of them is doing nothing.

Is Sharpshooter worth it?

On range-dependent gunners like Vindicta, Grey Talon, Mirage or Paradox, yes — it's one of their biggest mid-game weapon spikes and it matches the spacing they already play around. On brawlers and dive heroes it's a dead slot; buy Close Quarters instead.

Long Range or Sharpshooter?

Same item, different stage: Long Range is the cheap lane version, Sharpshooter is the completed upgrade. Start Long Range early for the poke, then finish Sharpshooter once you can afford it and want the bigger damage and velocity payoff.
