Mantling
Mantling turns a ledge into a route and can preserve movement resources for the next exchange. The important part is knowing where you will appear above the edge. Climbing into an enemy’s prepared angle can be worse than staying behind the lower cover.
Check the landing surface
Approach a reachable ledge and hold the mantle input. Practise from different approach angles so a missed climb does not cost a fight. Look for a second piece of cover on top, rather than stopping in the most visible place after the animation.
Use height with a retreat plan
A mantle can break a straightforward chase, but enemy melee contact can slow the climbing movement. It is not a guaranteed escape once a pursuer is already touching you. Combine the route with spacing and a follow-up turn instead of repeating the same ledge under pressure.
