Sacrifice some of your health to launch a bomb that deals damage after a brief arm time. Self damage type is Spirit and can be mitigated.
Create a tether that drains enemy health over time and heals you. Target must be in line of sight and within max range to drain. You can shoot and use other abilities during the drain, but your move speed is reduced. Alt Cast to give health to friendly Heroes.
Sacrifice some of your health to launch blood shards that apply a stack of Malice. Each stack slows the victim and increases the damage they take from you. The slow effect decreases over time.
Swaps health levels with an enemy target. There is a minimum health percentage that enemies can be brought down to and a minimum amount of health received based on victims current health.
Lady Geist is a spirit burst duelist and split-pusher who pays for her power in her own health. She wins isolated 1v1s and side lanes with Essence Bomb spam plus Life Drain sustain, then flanks teamfights to delete a carry with a Malice-amped bomb — and flips any trade gone wrong by swapping health bars with Soul Exchange. She's a clear spirit hero (her pistol is a finisher, not a carry), medium complexity: poking is trivial, but managing self-damage and the short-range, instant Soul Exchange is the real skill ceiling. Pick her if you want a flat, safe ranked duelist who never depends on the team.
Lane by attrition. Spam Essence Bomb to clear the wave and poke at the same time — your big HP pool plus Healing Rite (or a regen item) pays back the self-damage, which is mitigable spirit, so you take less of it as you stack spirit resist. Take one early point in Life Drain for trades: its cooldown is long early (roughly once a wave), so trade hard when it's up and play passive when it's down. Secure last hits with the pistol and deny when it's safe. Respect Kelvin, Shiv and Infernus in lane — their own healing and burn out-sustain your trades — so poke from range instead of dueling them dry. First buys are Mystic Burst for the poke spike, Extra Spirit to scale the whole kit, and a sustain item so your own bombs never run you out of HP.
This is your spike. With cooldown and spirit power online you're a premier split-pusher and 1v1 threat: push a side lane, force a duel, win it, then use Life Drain (plus Tankbuster) to solo-melt Walkers and objectives. Mystic Vulnerability stacks spirit vuln on top of Malice's amp, and Improved Spirit pushes bombs into one-shotting squishies. Always rotate with Soul Exchange up so you can flip a gank the instant you get jumped — dash-jump into the healthiest enemy and swap. Don't brawl in the open; come from an angle, drop the combo, and peel out with Enduring Speed beating any slow.
Late, you're a flanking nuke and a drain engine. Stay out of the main brawl — approach from a flank, land Malice into a Mystic-Vuln'd Essence Bomb on the enemy carry, and hold Soul Exchange as a reversal for when their team commits to you. Escalating Exposure turns Life Drain's rapid ticks into stacks of spirit vuln that ramp insanely fast, and Leech plus your lifesteal makes drain duels nearly unwinnable for the enemy. On the reworked king-of-the-hill Urn, your AoE bomb plus Life Drain is ideal for clearing and contesting the capture circle while staying topped off.
Core delete: stack Malice first (it amps the damage they take from you and slows them), then drop a Mystic-Vulnerability'd Essence Bomb on the slowed target — that's a kill on most squishies. With Echo Shard, imbue Essence Bomb and throw two back-to-back to erase a clustered wave, chunk a tower, or apply two Malice volleys for instant max stacks. Soul Exchange is your clutch swap: when you're about to die, dash-jump into the healthiest nearby enemy and trade health bars — you end full, they end near-dead. Note it now deals true damage (white numbers): it ignores spirit resist but does NOT proc Mystic Reverb or Spirit Burn (it does still proc Focus Lens). Last trick: because your self-damage is mitigable spirit, Spirit Resilience and Spellbreaker literally make your own bombs and Malice cost you less HP, so you spam more and survive more at the same time. Pair Life Drain with Escalating Exposure, Decay (kills their healing) and Tankbuster, and use a speed boost or Magic Carpet to cancel the drain's self-slow while you keep the tether.
Strong into high-HP, immobile targets — Bebop, Paradox, Mina, Vyper — because Soul Exchange punishes big health bars and Life Drain out-sustains them. Struggles into Kelvin (her worst lane; his shields and heals counter the drain), Shiv (his lifesteal and bleed out-sustain the duel) and Infernus (afterburn plus lifesteal out-trades her in lane). Roughly even into Abrams. Best teammates are Victor and Graves, who set up the flanks she wants. Against spirit-heavy comps grab Spellbreaker, against sustain bruisers grab Decay, and against heavy CC take Debuff Reducer so you can actually reach Soul Exchange range.
Poke and sustain. Mystic Burst is your biggest early bomb spike, Extra Spirit scales the whole kit cheaply, and Healing Rite plus Spirit Lifesteal pay back the self-damage so you can keep throwing bombs. Extra Health is more ability fuel and lane safety after the base-HP nerf; Sprint Boots keep you moving in the mobility meta.
Turn poke into one-shots. Mystic Vulnerability stacks on Malice's amp, Improved Spirit pushes bombs into delete range, and Superior Cooldown gives you more of everything. Spirit Resilience survives spirit comps and cuts your own self-damage, Enduring Speed keeps you on target for bomb angles, and Tankbuster makes Life Drain shred Walkers.
Full nuke and drain engine. Escalating Exposure ramps spirit vuln off Life Drain's fast ticks, Boundless Spirit is the all-around spirit capstone, and Mystic Reverb echoes your bomb/Malice/Drain damage. Echo Shard doubles Essence Bomb, Leech raises your lifesteal cap for unkillable drain duels, and Transcendent Cooldown gets bombs back roughly every six seconds.
Swap in by matchup. Spellbreaker vs spirit comps (big resist plus it cheapens your own casts), Decay vs sustain bruisers like Shiv/Infernus, Metal Skin vs bullet lineups for a window to commit Soul Exchange, Debuff Reducer and Slowing Hex to reach and lock down targets, and Magic Carpet for flank angles plus an escape after you commit.
Weapon or spirit Lady Geist?
Spirit — her abilities are the damage. A gun/Berserker build exists (her self-damage feeds Berserker stacks), but her low pistol RPS makes it a niche off-pick, not the standard. Build spirit power, cooldown and survivability.
Is Lady Geist good for beginners?
Medium. Poking with Essence Bomb is dead-simple, but the skill ceiling is managing your self-damage and timing the short-range, instant Soul Exchange. Stay topped on HP and resist and she's forgiving enough to learn on.
How do I use Soul Exchange well?
Treat it as a clutch reversal: when you're about to die, dash-jump into the healthiest enemy in range and swap health bars — you end full, they end near-dead. It's true damage, so it ignores resist but won't proc Reverb or Spirit Burn.
Why do I keep dying to my own bombs?
You're under-built on HP and resist. Pick up Extra Health plus a spirit-resist item (your self-damage is mitigable spirit), and don't throw the full combo at low health unless Life Drain or Soul Exchange is up to bail you out.
Once, Lady Jeanne Geist was the toast of the town. But as time passed and her beauty faded she found herself further and further from her glory days in High Society until finally she was nothing more than a frail woman in a nursing home, telling stories of a glorious past. And that’s when Oathkeeper revealed himself. A powerful spirit from another plane, Oathkeeper offered her a path to reclaim her past glories… he could restore her youth; all she had to do was drain the essence of the living to sustain herself.
Geist was torn. Obviously murder was ghoulish business, and undoubtedly Oathkeeper was not an entity that could be trusted… but still, the thought of having a second chance of reliving her youth was too good to pass up. And so she concocted a plan: after making a pact with Oathkeeper she would bind and ward him, limiting his influence and pull over her. Oathkeeper would still get fed; but on her terms, not his.
